Exercises provide the best means of testing competency. The more realistic the exercise conditions the more valuable the exercise learning’s. “Show me you can do it” is infinitely better than “Tell me how to do it”. The time and care spent planning an exercise is as important as the outcome of the exercise. Exercise types vary but all offer the opportunity for closer working relationships across the stakeholder community, which is invaluable during a spill.

LSES will offer a full exercise service in support of its Tier 1, 2, 3 service contracts. LSES will use a combination of employed staff and contracted specialist staff to deliver the appropriate exercise types required. LSES subscribe to the exercise guidelines provided by the International Petroleum Industry Conservation Association (IPIECA). LSES will encourage and support contract clients to schedule a mix of announced and unannounced exercises at least 6 months in advance.
