LSES Staff Changes

Jim Surveying a spill in Australia

In September Jim Thornborough left LSES to take on new challenges. Jim had been with LSES since its inception in early 2008. His knowledge and experience helped establish the company quickly. With Jim’s assistance, LSES has already operated (and set up a successful track record) in Ghana, Australia, the Middle East and South East Asia. In only a year of trading the company’s portfolio encompasses Nautical Institute accredited MCA Course training, salvage experience, major spill experience and regular preparedness work for oil and gas operations. All in LSES, Lamor and Swire Pacific Offshore (SPO) would like to wish Jim all the very best in his future endeavours and know, that our paths will cross again as we work in a small and friendly industry!

On 1st October Grant Michels joined LSES as an interim Operations Manager. Grant has been seconded to LSES from its parent company SPO. Grant has worked for SPO for the best part of a decade and, as an experienced Ship’s Master has worked all over the globe for all of the major oil and gas companies. In his time he has worked on a number of salvage and oil spill response projects.

Grant will be replaced by LSES’s permanent Operations Manager: Dean Vaughan in mid November. Dean has also worked with SPO for many years and has recently been the Port Captain for SPO’s operations based out of Equatorial Guinea. Dean’s oil spill response and salvage experience is significant and will further help develop and enhance LSES’s reputation as the offshore and marine industries’ answer to preparedness and response to pollution events.

In the short term, both Grant and Dean will be helping the LSES response base team with the re-organisation of the company’s oil spill response kit located at the Jebel Ali response base. The improvements will ensure a speedier response time from the base as well as a greater volume of equipment on display and immediately ready to respond to any incidents whether they are in the local area or farther afield.

All at LSES would like to welcome both Grant and Dean to the team.
